Family Night

I still haven't thought of a clever name for our special annual family night, but I'm going to tell you about it anyway. See the beautiful star we got from Piggy&Dirt (Kurt Knudsen). It has our theme etched in the middle and the year above it. So pretty, now to find the perfect place to hang it.

For dinner we had salad and rolls and pork chops and cheesy broccoli and rice. But before we ate everyone filled out their questioner about something they had accomplished that was hard and how they felt when the did it. Then they wrote one hard thing that they would like to accomplish. Here are every one's answers:

McKay- Writing my name at school.- I felt good.- I want to learn to read.

Gracie- Did the splits- I felt happy-I want to do a cartwheel.

Abby- A back bend over- I felt like I worked hard. I want to do a front handspring.

Bryce-I ran the Bolder Boulder in 59 min. I felt tired but good. I want to cliff jump at Lake Powell.

Nate-I did cross country.- I felt tired and sore.-I want to play varsity football in High school.

Natalie-I ran a 1/2 marathon.- I felt relieved and excited. I want to keep my room clean.

Sam-I graduated from college.-I felt fantastic, excited and relieved.

Then we talked about how we have to work hard to reach those goals but with Heavenly Father's help we can accomplish anything. After dinner we went to the back yard to break open our geodes. Great object lesson, thanks for the idea Meg.
Then we came back in side and Sam gave each of the children a beautiful Father's Blessing. Each one was very specific and suited to that child. It was a wonderful thing to be a part of. After the blessing I gave everyone a gift that was made by my friend Krisi at KLG designs. It's a key chain to put on their backpacks or keyring (Sam), to always remember our special night together and remember that we can all do hard things.

did you read that? Someone commented that you make them feel like a slacker. YOU are the mom that makes other moms feel like a slacker.
That's something to be proud of, I say.
I love the keychains. I want to order some for us and have a "refresher" lesson! Wish I had thought of the geode thing back when we actually DID our special family night! We call ours our Back to School Family Night. It's wordy. I concur...we need a better name for it.

You are a good mother.

PS-I like your dark hair!
