Nate- "When I grow up I want to be filthy stinkin rich."
(Silence)
Nate- "Don't worry I'll give money to the poor and to, like orphans and stuff, but I'll still have enough money to live the sweeeet life. When I'm rich I'm going to have a clapper."
Bryce- "What's a clapper?"
Nate- "You know, the thing that turns on the light when you clap and then turns them off when you clap again."
Bryce- "Oh yea. I want a snapper."
Nate- "The snapper hasn't been invented yet. It's just from Night at The Museum."
Abby- "I want a stomper."
Gracie "I want a skipper."
Nate- "Mom, is there anybody who is a multi-billionaire?"
Mom- "I don't know."
Nate- "I at least want to be a multi-millionaire."
Bryce- "I want to be a thousandaire."
Nate- "Uh, everyone is a thousandaire. Well except the poor people."
Bryce- "Mom, are you a thousandaire"
Mom- "I don't know."
(You see I'm tired, and when I'm tired "I don't know" is my answer to every question.)

Give me a second while I climb up on my soap box.
I usually don't use my blog as a place to rant. (That's what I have a husband for). I never know who is reading it and what their views are and I really try to avoid offending people so I try to keep my opinions to my self as much as possible, but sometimes it's just too difficult. Here's the situation that brought on the following rant. Today after dropping Gracie off at pre-school I met with some of the moms to plan the up coming pre-school pumpkin party. One mom suggested a game where the kids race to wrap each other in toilet paper like a mummy. We've played this game before and the kids seem to like it. Anyway, one of the other moms spoke up and suggested that we don't make it a race. Her reason was, that if her son lost he would throw a fit. Hummm, so let me get this straight, instead of teaching your son to be a good sport and a gracious loser you want us to eliminate the idea that it is a competition so that you won't have to deal with the little brat. Yes, he's only 4 but I think that is a great time to start learning these little life lessons. I would hate to wait until my kid was a teenager and was throwing a fit in front of all of his friends because he lost a game. (I've seen this happen, pretty embarrassing).
Don't get me wrong I'm not a super competitive person. I enjoy playing games just for fun. But, I think that there are valuable lessons that can be learned through competition. Like team work, being a gracious loser and a gracious winner. I just think that if we raise our kids in a world where there are no winners and no losers we send them the wrong message and when they enter the real world they are going to have a rude awakening.
Having said all of this, I realize that it is just a game at a party for 4 year olds and I really don't care if they call it a race or not. I just get the feeling that some parents want to make everything easy for their kids instead of taking the time to teach them how to behave.
What ever, I'm over it. Thanks for listening.

The Rock
I love fall, and last weekend was amazing. Sunday afternoon we took advantage of what might be one of our last nice weekends before the snow hits. We went on one of our favorite family outings, and climbed Castle Rock. Abby made it all the way to the top for the first time. The weather was perfect and we had a great time. Sam and I were reminded just how out of shape we are but it was worth the effort.
