I'M A RUNNER!

I'm on week one of an 8 week run/walk program. You start slowly, mostly walking interrupted by short bouts of running. Each week you walk less and run more, and at the end of the 8th week I will be running 30 minutes strait. That's the idea anyway. I will be done with my 8 weeks just in time for the St. Patricks Day 5K on March 20, in Highlands Ranch. Who's joining me? Then I get ready for the Bolder Boulder. Here's the thing, I hate running, but I've always felt like there was a runner inside of me, and this is the year that I find her. Maybe next year I will find my inner hiker, but this year I'm looking for the runner. I started my program last Thursday and so far so good. Every day I write in my exercise journal "I'M A RUNNER!", along with what I accomplished that day. I'm sort of in the "fake it til you make it" mode, but I'm happy with my progress. One thing I read said "If you are not running because you enjoy it, than you are not a real runner." So I guess I'm not a "real" runner yet, but I'm a runner none the less. I can't wait to post my finish line pictures, because that's what runners do.

Good for you Nat!! I think it's so awesome what you're doing. Trust me, I NEVER thought of myself as a runner...but I would push a little farther or a little longer each time and it got easier and easier. Hopefully one day you'll love it and feel all the benefits of it!! :)

I'll run it with you but I might have to stay at your house too. What do you think?

You are awesome! What a great goal!

I ran a half marathon and I still feel like a faker. Running clothes help me feel legit.

Speaking of...whoever Old Navy has designing their fitness wear deserves a gold medal. Their running shorts knock the socks off my Brooks or Nike shorts. And they're TEN BUCKS! I about died. They have cute running skirts, too (they're a little longer than the shorty running shorts) for $10 also! Woot! Invest in a dri-fit shirt. They are always $12 or $13 at Penny's, so I wait until I get a $10 off a $10 purchase and get one for $2 there. You'll be able to run twice as far if you're not all schwetty. And get good shoes. Now is the time! If you have a New Balance store, they have all their shoes from last year on clearance for $60. Don't run in non running shoes. You'll just end up with an injury (for realz).
Way to go, Natalie! I love running...and I hate running still. But I hate it less than when I started. You can do it! Start out slow.

This comment was long. sorry. But I know everything that you're feeling because I felt it all, too! Hal Higdon has a GREAT training program on his website. Go "fake runners!" Woo HOo!

I too feel like there is a runner/skinny girl trapped inside me and I just need to find them! It is a little more difficult when Lucas is on the truck and it is freezing cold---my latest excuse!! Good luck on the Highlands Ranch 5K!!

We love Nike+ I bought an ipod JUST so I could use Nike+ for my runs. I'm listening to my running mix, then all of a sudden someone comes on to say how far I've run, or how fast I'm running and I feel like a champ.
